04 Feb Skin Season has arrived!
Are you ready with your at springtime must-haves?

Spring is the season of new beginnings. In Florida, it can mean that we may experience more temperate weather where the climate is mild and more comfortable, but also marks the beginning of allergy season. Temperate weather, THE one and only true skin loving climate, can be described as the same temperature inside as it is outside without the help of heating or air conditioning.
When the temperatures and humidity are average, the clinical studies have shown that skin functions are more relaxed. No skin stress equals beautiful skin! During this time, the skin can actually benefit from the atmosphere when the skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF) can draw in the optimal amount of atmospheric water it needs to stay naturally moist and balanced.
The skin’s barrier functions can be less challenged by pollution and UV light because the UV index is usually lower than in more extreme climates. BUT (there is always a “but”), protecting the skin during this period is still essential, because free radical damage can still occur.

Your home skin care routine can support or hinder the investment you make with in-office treatments. The home care essentials for your skin, regardless of season, are daily antioxidants, sun protection, and a night time ritual use of a retinoid (Vitamin A) appropriate for your skin type.
If it is time for you to increase your vitamin A strength, what are you waiting for? Your skin can acclimate to increased strength or increased application frequency by utilizing my sandwich technique: apply a layer of your favorite night time moisturizer followed by a pea size amount of your prescribed vitamin A product, followed by another layer of your night time moisturizer.
Remember Vitamin A is an essential micronutrient! Our skin cells in both the epidermis and dermis contain protein receptors that are very receptive to Vitamin A. Benefits include:
-
Assistance in cellular turnover to create new skin,
-
Stimulation of new collagen production, or, thickening the dermis,
-
Resurfacing the skin to diminish the fine, etched lines and wrinkles,
-
Assistance in regulation of oil production.
Our favorite Vitamin A products that you can pick up in the office are:
